Warmup to greatness

I haven't applied for building permits before, or poured concrete, or altered roofing, or been present for a city building code inspection. My dad has done most of those, which is great, and I've had some drafting training. Still, a whole house is a bit daunting for my first attempt, even with the resources available to me. Here's the plan: start with a porch for the "host house" (which we've affectionately called the Foster Home).

The driveway needs to be widened to allow both homes their own parking, and the existing small porch is in the way. The front of the house will look a lot nicer, and it'll be good practice, using as much reclaimed and recyclable material as possible.
In preparation for the permits (and any loan applications), I'll be making multi-layered detailed CAD plans of the design. Should be fun. We'll be re-painting the house too, of course.
